Sinners, do not forget to confess your sins so that you will be rewarded by the good Lord. And, for those of you, sinners, who sin repeatedly, stop it for God's sake! Love your neighbor as yourself. Yes, the guy that you will see tomorrow in church is your neighbor. But those who you do not see, it is okay, love them too. They are your extended neighbors. Love everybody; it was Valentine's Day yesterday. Love is still in the air.

No one knows the future

Does God knows the future? Yes, but He makes Himself not knowing it so that He does not interfere in our free will. Remember the Israelites, they used to request and remind God to save them from their enemies, as if the good Lord did not know about their problems. Often, God in the Old Testament was re-active rather than pro-active. Yes, He did plan the big picture, but the little things, you know, life things are for us, the mere mortals, to handle them. Can I pray for God for help? Of course, I can. I need to remind Him with my miseries, and these are many. Would He act to stop them? Preachers are smart. They tell us when what we asked for in prayers is fulfilled, they say 'God helped you.' If the things I ask for does not come to fruition, they say 'God did not want you to have it.' In both cases, it is God's will, or is it? How come we are told we have free will? If we don't, then God cannot punish us for our sins. But wait, why would God allow us to sin? Because He does not interfere in our daily life. But then wait a minute here, if He does not interfere in our daily life then does He know the future? Yes, He does, but He made Himself not to know the future. Then, do I have free will? No son, God is in control. Then, I should not be punished for my sins, correct? No son, you have free will. Which one is it? Do I have free will or not? I don't know, ask God!

The answer to solve any problem

 Most people think that the answer to any problem we face in life is the simplest one. They are totally wrong. The reason this thinking is common because it was created by common people, not geniuses. The answer to any problem may not be known readily, and perhaps will never be known. Life is complicated and evil. Don't try to think about things that happen around you as simple and common. Everything happens around us has its own meaning. And everything happens around us depends on everything else happening around us. Remember the old Chinese saying, 'a butterfly moving its wings in China is part of the cause of the Hurricane in Mexico.' So true!

What, Where, Who, Why, and How

 In order for any story to be complete, you will need to know the 'What, Where, Who, Why, and How' about it.

What happened?

Where did it happen

Who's done it?

Why did they do it?

How was it done?

Simple questions, but each one of them is incomplete unless you know the others.

And, by the way, don't you ever plan to know all of them. In statistics, if an event occurred less than 10% of the time on its own, and you observe it, you are observing a miracle. Always ask, what is the probability of an event to occur by chance alone. If it is 10% or less, then that event is unusual and requires a great deal of information to be resolved, if ever it is resolved. People's action, any action, is based on cost and benefit. If the cost of an action is greater than its benefits, most people won't do it, a few though still do it. If the benefit exceeds the cost, most people will do it, though some will not. All of our actions are based on probability, even though we don't necessary calculate it, but rather perceive it. Human brain likes linearity; two is double one, four is double two, and so on. Life presents us with non-linear events, and we try to solve them or think about them linearly. That is why, most people gets confused and don't get it. When presented with a life problem, try not to think linearly. Genius and smart people are just that, smart and genius because they don't think linearly. Think about it this way, if you watch an ice cube melting you would know where the water came from. If you see water on the table, that water could've initiated from ice, from vapor that got condensed, or someone spilled water on the table. Our human mind is trained to think the latter. Most geniuses think the other two. That is why there are geniuses. Don't be like them. Like who, you would ask? You figure it out.

Life, It is Crapshoot

 


Life throws at you many curves. You think you are catching up and something happens to knock you down again. From unexpected car repairs, to a leaky water heater, to a dishwasher that decided to stop in the middle of its run cycle, to a microwave that stops heating your food, to a refrigerator that refuses to keep your food cold, and so on and so forth. You've got the idea. I started in April of 2019 accumulating debt. I thought I almost was able to pay it off by June of 2021, and of course, more debt started to reappear. I reached my maximum debt in October of 2023, and since then I began to get hold of it until June of 2024, and then again, more debt showed up. It seems I am heading now in the right direction. But wait, my real estate tax bill will be here in July, and I had some car engine problems recently that will knock me down (or up in the curve) again. Life happens, and that is why they call it life. It is crapshoot.

How to get rid of the film on your tongue, white or any other color?

 Physicians and dentists may recommend an antifungal medications for the white film over your tongue. Some may recommend to scrape it off with a tongue scrapper. These may work partially. Others may recommend using gargles, all type of gargles. I have found a much simpler way to do it; after you finish brushing your teeth, use your toothbrush and brush off your tongue over the affected area. If you do that daily for about 8-10 weeks, that film is all but gone. It just needs patience and determination.

Moses's Staff

 If you read the Book of Exodus you will read that Moses had a staff that did with it miracles. The Book refers to it as a staff given to him by God. I think his staff was a futuristic instrument not yet discovered even today given to him by UFO intelligence. That staff did wonders. It turned into a serpent, it splits a sea, it healed people and changed river water into red. Moses had a superpower in his hand. Yes, he was an old man with a superman power. Exodus was the first Superman comics ever written.

New Banknotes in Syria (Syrian Arab Republic)

Damascus, Syria, New banknotes will be issued in Syria beginning January 1, 2026. The new bank notes is equivalent to 100 times that of the old banknotes. The new Syrian pound or the 'Lera' will be equivalent to 100 old 'Lera.' The Syrian government has given the people 90 days (starting on January 1, 2026) to exchange their old money with the new one. This 90-day period is subject to be renewed as needed. The Syrian government will give 30 days advance notice of terminating the exchanged period. Meanwhile, Syrian merchants are required to post their items for sale in both banknotes and are to accept the old and the new money until the exchange period has ended. Syria is not printing more money to be distributed on the market but rather printing an equivalent amount of money to that currently available in circulation (in other words, no effect on inflation). The government has also declared that in the future, they are to completely eliminate banknotes and replace them with an electronic monetary system (i.e., no more cash).

Nasal Saline Rinse

People often clean their nasal cavity with a spray or a mist of saline solution. These are available commercially and have relatively low risk of causing adverse events. I have used these solutions for months now and after about 7 months of use I began experiencing unpleasant symptoms. It began about a month ago where I had discomfort and pain upon swallowing as if I had a sore throat. This feeling persisted for several weeks and continues to persist albeit it is milder and less frequent recently. Occasionally I still feel pain upon swallowing. I consulted an ENT physician last week and was told there was nothing abnormal (he scoped my throat with an intranasal tube that reached my throat; it sounds painful, but really it is not; it was quick with almost no discomfort at all). I finally googled side effects of intranasal saline rinses and found out that if the solution reaches the throat it will cause mild symptoms resembling a sore throat that can persist for a week or two after stopping their use. I stopped using them about 5 days and I am finding out that the symptoms are subsiding gradually. I think they will totally disappear by next week. This was an eye opener as I did not realize that they could cause throat irritation if they reached the throat. In fact, I made sure that the solution would reached my throat when I used them. It is a big mistake. According to what I read, they should be ok to use if you keep them away from your throat by not inhaling after you spray them in your nose. This can be achieved by tilting the head downward and forward without inhaling the spray. By the way, these solutions contain salt and water. In rare cases they may lead to infections if they get contaminated. Another thing, there are hypertonic rinses and isotonic rinses. It is better to use the isotonic rinses because they do not disturb tissues they come in contact with. As a final thought, my discomfort turned out not to be related to these rinses. So, I am back using them to flush my nose and sinuses. Consult your healthcare provider or your pharmacist concerning the use of these solutions. Each of us may react differently towards them.

An UPDATE: It turned out that nasal saline was NOT the cause of my pain. It was silent heartburn (GERD) that I am now treating it with 40 mg Prilosec and 10 mg Pepcid, daily.

"Raw" Potatoes 'Kibbeh'

'Kibbeh' is a Middle Eastern dish that comprises of cracked wheat and beef or lamb meat. It can be eaten raw with some olive oil added to it and with onion. Kibbeh can also be made into layers sandwiched in between the layers hamburger mixed with onions and pine nuts and then baked. Baked kibbeh is often eaten with 'baba ghanoush,' a dip made of yogurt and baked eggplants with olive oil and fresh garlic added to it. You can also make vegetarian kibbeh replacing the meat with mashed potatoes, and adding kibbeh spices, chili pepper, cumin, salt, and black pepper. The Ten Commandments

EXODUS 20:1-17 (The Orthodox Study Bible)


"Now the Lord spoke all these words, saying;


I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.


You shall not make for yourself an idol or a likeness of anything in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the waters under the earth. You shall not bow down to them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, recompensing the sins of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me; but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.


You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.


Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: neither you, nor your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, your cattle, nor your stranger who sojourns with you. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath Day and hallowed it.


Honor your father and mother that it may be well with you, and your days may be long upon the good land the Lord your God is giving you.


You shall not murder.


You shall not commit adultery.


You shall not steal.


You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.


You shall not covet your neighbor's wife or his house, and neither shall you covet his field, nor his male servant, his female servant, his ox, his donkey, any of his cattle, or whatever belongs to your neighbor."
