There are four laws of thermodynamics. The Zeroth, the First, the Second, and the Third.
The Zeroth law concerned itself with thermal equilibrium. In other words, it states that if two bodies (A & B) are in thermal equilibrium with a third body (C), then they are in thermal equilibrium with each other. Stated differently, they have the same temperature. Applied to social science, when you and your buddy agree on something preached by another person, you and you buddy are in 'Social Equilibrium' with each other. The Zeroth law also implies that you and your buddy agree on everything else (it does not happen 100% socially, but it often approaches the 100% mark).
The First law deals with conservation of energy. Energy, according to this law, is never lost to nothing nor created from nothing. It simply transforms from one form to another. You and you buddy exchange ideas, these ideas lead to new ideas, but your original ideas came from even more original ideas. No new ideas are created or destroyed. They simply transform from one form to another form. It is the old saying, 'nothing is new under the sun.'
The Second law states that processes in nature proceed only in one direction. They never return to their original form. A plant grows from seed to full plant. The full plant never returns back to its original seed that it came from. It is unidirectional. When you and your buddy exchange ideas you cannot 'unexchanged them.' You cannot 'unsee' something you've already seen. The Second law also implies that all natural processes proceed towards a state of equilibrium, where work cannot be done anymore (i.e., for biological system, it is the death point).
The Third law is a special case of the Second law. It states that the form with highest potential to do work is the crystalline state when placed at absolute temperature (0 Kelvin). No biological system can survive absolute temperature, but I can assure you that if you are out and about in subfreezing temperatures in the winter, your thoughts and actions almost stop from processing, reserved for another time when you reach a warmer area. Then you have a great potential to express those thoughts that were inhibited during your frozen period. In other words, you had the greatest reserve of thoughts and ideas when you were frozen, because your focus while frozen is to seek a warm shelter and nothing else.
The four thermodynamics laws apply to everything in life. They influence everything we do, we see, we hear, we touch, or we perceive. They cannot be challenged. They are always right. Always!
