Seeing a Health "No-Care" Specialists in the US

Most of us are now forced to see specialists because our primary "no-care" practitioners are told not to do physical exams. They are too good for that, right? This is my experience so far in trying to see a specialist in North Carolina; to see an eye doctor (MD) for glaucoma testing (7 months; I called in November and the earliest appointment available was in June); for a GI specialist (5 months; I called in August and my appointment is in January). And, I am an established patient with these two specialists. The MD eye doctor I saw him last year. The GI doctor, I've been their patient for the past 25 years. I needed to see a hematology specialist last year; I called in October 2024, and was told the earliest appointment was in December of 2025. I should've taken it. All of this is because our primary "no-care" practitioners are not doing their job that they swore an oath to uphold. Medical programs (MD, DO, PA, NP) should do a better job in selecting their students. A high GPA, some prior experience in the health "no-care," a good personality, and so on and so forth do not cut it anymore. Admission Committees need to focus and develop methods for detecting liars from those who really care about other human beings.

The Wellness "No-Care" Exam

For at least five years or so, the "Wellness Exam" has replaced the "Annual Physical" which was also known the "Annual Checkup." In the past, your doctor would examine you from the top of your head to your toes, run lab tests, do necessary additional tests (like chest x-ray) and send you home with a new or renewed prescription order. Now, during your annual wellness exam, your clinician (PA, NP, MD, or DO) runs a few routine lab tests, reads to you the results (like they think we cannot read them or we are too stupid to understand them), listens to your breathing for 15 seconds and then send you home with a new or renewed prescription. If you went to have a wellness exam, your clinician probably has missed the melanoma on your back that will kill you in a few weeks, missed the signs of colon cancer because they failed to test the blood in your stool, missed the prostate cancer because they are too lazy to check that too, and missed your cervical cancer because they thought you should've told them about signs during your wellness no-care exam that lasted at best 20 minutes and most likely 12 minutes. Our health "no-care" system is broken. Many of us will end-up dying because of lack of preventive medicine. So most of us now, who really care about our own health, began going to see specialists to find out whether we have cervical cancer (a gynecologist), prostate cancer (a urologist), colon cancer (a GI doctor), skin cancer (a dermatologist), and so on. It is time that the clinicians did their true work of preventing disease. Patients are not trained in detecting or diagnosing their illnesses. We do not know if a growth on my hand is cancerous or not. It is the clinician job to discover those hidden in plain sight signs during the physical exam. It is time that the no-wellness no-care exam to be trashed and thrown in the toilet. This is a message to all primary health "no-care" workers, your patients do not trust you anymore because they see clearly how much you do not give a two-pennies about your patients. One would wonder, why did you even attend medical school, PA school, or NP program. Did you lie during your admission interview to the committee whom you fooled to accept you by telling them because you wanted to help people and your really cared? Or is it because you became a clinician to show off or is it for the money? Which one was it?

A No-Snow Day in Holly Springs, NC

 Holly Springs, NC. It snowed yesterday in Raleigh, NC, but not in Holly Springs (there is like 0.01 inch of white stuff on the leaves and rails). We had a little bit of sleet mixed with tiny amount of snow, enough to leave a dust on the porch's rails and the leaves. Wake County schools (and others in our area) were closed. It happened that I was in Raleigh when it began to snow. Even that snow was light and wet.

My Bailey, I miss you so much,,,It has been one year since she had passed (December 8, 2024) at noon.
