Prostate Specific Antigen Velocity (PSAV)
Current recommendation is that if a patient PSA velocity is high this patient must be evaluated for prostate cancer via biopsy. A recent study suggests that a high velocity for PSA should focus on evaluating the patient for prostatitis before sending him off to do biopsy. The results from this study suggests that PSA velocity adds very little predictive value for prostate cancer.
